The Heart Behind Natura Blends
Rooted in Nature — My Herbal Journey
Nature always felt like home
Some of my fondest childhood memories are of being outdoors, lying in the grass watching the birds and clouds drift across the sky, exploring the creek, catching turtles, and discovering the little creatures living beneath the leaves and soil.
I grew up with a mother who loved gardening, and I spent many hours helping her tend the garden. I remember the smell of freshly turned earth, the excitement of watching things grow, and the satisfaction of harvesting what we had planted.
Our family also spent time preserving the harvest, canning and preparing food to enjoy throughout the year. My father would often say, “We're eating like kings and queens.”
Looking back, I realize those experiences planted the first seeds of my connection to nature.
Discovering the Healing Traditions of Plants
As I grew older, my curiosity about natural health continued to develop. My mother had introduced our family to naturopaths and other alternative health practitioners, so looking beyond conventional approaches to health was not entirely unfamiliar to me.
When my father was diagnosed with cancer, I began researching cannabis and its potential medicinal properties. That experience opened a door to a much larger world of plant medicine.
Throughout my thirties and forties, I became increasingly interested in the relationship between plants, food, traditional remedies, and our well-being.
I was fascinated by the knowledge that had been gathered and passed down through generations, long before modern medicine existed as we know it today.
The more I learned, the more I wanted to discover.
The Little Plant That Changed Everything
One of the plants that truly captured my attention was plantain.
A friend and I began exploring this humble little plant, often found growing beneath our feet and easily overlooked as an ordinary weed.
As we researched its traditional uses, particularly for insect bites and stings, we began experimenting with our own herbal preparation, which we called Bug, Bite and Sting.
That little discovery eventually became the inspiration for my Bug, Spider & Sting After Bite Oil, one of the preparations I still make today.
I often think about how that simple plant helped shape my journey.
Cannabis may have opened the door, but plantain was the little plant that led me through it.
Learning, Growing, and Creating
My growing passion eventually led me to begin studying herbalism through Wild Rose College, taking courses toward a Practical Herbalist diploma.
Although I haven't completed the diploma, the experience helped deepen my understanding of herbs, their traditional uses, and the many ways plants can be prepared.
Much of my learning has also come through personal research, hands-on experience, and the simple process of working with plants.
Over time, my kitchen began to resemble a little apothecary.
There were herbs drying, oils infusing, teas being blended, and jars of preparations tucked away in cupboards.
I began creating herbal products for myself, my family, friends, and even our pets.
What started as a personal interest slowly became something I wanted to share with others.
How Natura Blends Was Born
While working at a massage and chiropractic clinic, I had the opportunity to share some of my handmade preparations, including massage lotions and magnesium sprays.
Hearing people's feedback and knowing that they enjoyed using something I had carefully made encouraged me to continue developing my creations.
Over time, the idea of Natura Blends began to take shape.
I wanted to create a small business that reflected my love of nature, my respect for traditional herbal knowledge, and the satisfaction I find in making things by hand.
Today, Natura Blends is my way of sharing that passion.
From herbal teas and infused oils to balms, lotions, and other botanical preparations, each creation is made with care, curiosity, and an appreciation for the plants that inspire it.
From My Hands to Yours
I believe there is something special about slowing down, reconnecting with nature, and appreciating the simple things that grow around us.
Herbalism, for me, is a lifelong journey of learning. There is always another plant to discover, another traditional use to explore, and something new to understand.
I don't believe that any one person has all the answers. I believe in continuing to ask questions, sharing knowledge, and respecting the experiences of others.
Natura Blends is more than a collection of handmade products. It is a reflection of my journey, my curiosity, and my love for the natural world.
Thank you for taking the time to learn a little about me and the heart behind Natura Blends.
Rooted in nature, handcrafted with care.
